Year 6 - University College London

Welcome to Year 6 - University College London Class. The Class Teacher is Mr Taylor and the Teaching Assistant is Mr Byrne.

This term we will be reading Holes. It is all about a young man called Stanley Yelnats who is caught with a pair of stolen sneakers in his bag and is sent to the middle of a dry lake to dig holes alongside other young offenders. The children will be writing mystery stories, diary entries and balanced arguments based on the book.

In maths, we will be looking a place value in numbers up to 10 million; answering word problems involving all four operations; learning how to find the highest common factor and lowest common multiple of two numbers; and recognising prime numbers and the prime factors of numbers.

Homework will involve a set of ten spellings, a grammar sheet, a comprehension exercise and a maths task. These will all be on sheets. As well as reading a minimum of five times a week, children are expected to practise their times tables and number facts (these include fraction, decimal and percentage equivalents).

Thank you for your continued support. If you wish to make an appointment to see Mr Taylor or Mr Byrne, please do so via the school office.
